Should I renovate or relocate?

Is it worth spending some money fixing up your current home or are you better off moving somewhere new? It is important to consider all your options before making your decision and working out what is suited best for you.

Renovating is cheaper than moving

First things first – when deciding if it is better to remodel or move you will need to put the perfect ending thought to bed and consider the costs. As much as this may surprise you, a well thought out renovation plan will cost much less than what it would to buy a new property. A big reason for this is that you can budget for each room and take it step by step. Just as we have spoken about before, you may think that your home is dull and dark with no life to it, but a revamp in furniture and a shutter added to the window can make all the difference for a much more affordable rate.

There are always small trade-offs to be made when buying a brand new home. For example, you may fall in love with your new kitchen but your living room may feel a bit outdated and cluttered. Shutters are fitted within the recess of a window meaning they sit flush unlike more traditional fittings such as curtains. This in turn creates blank space around and either side of the window. Without having to move or renovate the entire room, you can change a simple feature and magnify your living space with 0 extension costs. If you do still decide that some substantial work needs to be done, the price will still outweigh the cost in moving. Likewise, if you want to install underfloor heating as well as your oakwood flooring, Go ahead!

Kerb Appeal

For most houses, on goers cannot appreciate the efforts you have made to create your dream home. Blinds are really only the small details that are sometimes on show however these are mostly concealed at all time through the day as they are enclosed on the inside of your recess. You can easily eradicate this issue and increase your home’s appeal with a variation of shutter styles to choose from. Furthermore, if you are looking to sell your property then first impressions are all important and prospective buyers are sure to be impressed if they turn up outside to be greeted by windows dressed with timeless plantation shutters.

Increase your current homes value

It is a common question to ask whether shutters increase the value of your home or not? Whether you’re thinking of selling soon or if it is a long term plan, making an investment such as shutters will maximise the potential buyers and value of your property. Your house needs to have its own uniqueness to it. If you already have plantation shutters installed then you are two thirds of the way there. If you don’t, it would be a great time to consider them.
Estate agents will use your shutters as a selling feature and when the time comes to value your property. They will add an amount onto the sale price, as shutters are considered to be a part of the furnishing and fittings. Essentially they are like an extension to your home. Any potential buyers and estate agents will instantly focus on the elegance and modernised touch that shutters bring to the space and base opinions around this addition.
Always be mindful that a good bathroom and kitchen are a great selling point. Plantation shutters can make a tired kitchen or bathroom look amazing, with very little additional work. If you are planning on having shutters installed in humid rooms such as these, then the UPVC range is a practical choice as they are 100% waterproof making them suitable for areas that may be at risk of water coming into contact with any surfaces.
